2025 Men’s AfroBasket : successful continental venture for Angola

As host country for the 2025 Men’s Afrobasket, Angola has once again confirmed its position as a continental leader in basketball and sports organisation. With an enthusiastic audience, state-of-the-art facilities and an undeniable passion for the sport, Angola’s gamble has paid off, offering fans and players an unforgettable experience in Luanda and beyond.

From 12 to 24 August, Angola will host the 31st FIBA AfroBasket tournament in Luanda and Moçâmedes, reaffirming its position on the continental stage. The 2025 edition highlights the country’s sporting tradition and organisational strength, with two modern venues (the 12,720-seat Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda and the 3,072-seat Pavilhão Welwitschia Mirabilis in Namibia), efficient logistics and a robust security system, meeting international standards and ensuring smooth operations for players, officials and fans.

This year, it is being organised by Angola, a country with high-quality infrastructure and a professional basketball league.

Praising the impeccable scheduling, extensive media coverage and warm welcome given to visiting teams, observers hailed the tournament as a sporting spectacle and a celebration of African unity, while coaches and players highlighted the professionalism of the local organisers.

Yes, in terms of organisation, you couldn’t ask for anything better in Africa. As I said, this is a basketball nation, the fans are very passionate, and I think the organisation is perfect. The arenas are full and the atmosphere is great. The Angolan league has been around for over 30 years and is professional.

From the quality of the infrastructure to the intensity of the matches, AfroBasket 2025 will be remembered as an important milestone in the organisation of major sporting events by African nations, strengthening national pride and continental unity.
